Internet of Things

The phrase Internet of Things (IoT) refers to the billions of individually addressable computing devices that are now connected to the Internet. Such computing devices include not only mobile phones, laptops, and desktop computers, but to computers that are embedded in an increasing variety of devices, including cars, household appliances, sensors, and industrial devices.

The ability to control or retrieve information from an increasing number and variety of devices via the Internet presents new and exciting possibilities for solving problems as well as security and data privacy risks to be addressed.

The NBCC Mobile First Technology initiative (MFTi) has become increasingly involved in applied research involve IoT. MFTi's work in this area has included situation awareness and home energy monitoring.
