Smart communities
The NBCC Mobile First Technology initiative (MFTi) started its smart communities research in November 2016. The objectives of this program are to develop and support individual projects through a co-creation process with public and private partners to design mobile information and communication technologies (ICT) that help communities develop solutions to life-critical needs, including situation awareness, food security, resilience, public and active transportation, social innovation, and resource utilization.
MFTi is interested in the full range of community types, including urban, suburban, semi-rural, rural, and remote communities; and particularly in addressing problems that span these different types of communities. Such problems include the delivery of transit, health care, and educational services across multi-community regions.
